Ian is the founder of the CopaVerde movement and co-author of the CopaVerde Plan for Brazil, an initiative to include LEED certification in the infrastructure build for the 2014 World Cup, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and Brasília 2019 Universiade Games. McKee is the sustainability director for the Brasília National Stadium, currently seeking LEED Platinum certification, and is the author of the first Green Building Education, Zero Waste, Green Cleaning and Bike Valet Programs for a FIFA World Cup stadium.
McKee also worked with the Brazil's Ministry of Energy (ANEEL) to implement the first Net-Metering PV Solar Energy law in the country, designed to allow Brazilian stadiums to reach higher levels of building energy efficiency using local renewable (solar) power generation. This law may perhaps be the greatest legacy of all from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Ian McKee founded EcoArenas in February of 2009 with the mission of applying Green Building principles to sports facilities, arenas and stadiums. His passion for sports and vision of a sustainably built environment set him on a journey to design and build the “EcoArenas” of the future.
